River City Hornets Basketball Club is a not for profit organization based in Mt Gravatt/Wishart. We have basketball teams for boys and girls from Under 8's to Under 18's. All our committee members, coaches and managers contribute on a voluntary basis. As a club member we encourage parents/guardians to get involved as managers, scorekeepers and/or coaches

Registrations – in order to play for River City Hornets a player must be registered both with River City Hornets (club) and South West Metro Pirates (association). Refer below for fees and links to online registrations.

There are no weekly training or game fees. First 2-3 weeks of grading are free trial period (all players must be registered with River City Hornets in order to attend training or games during trial period).


Hornets New Player Pack - this pack consists on Hornets Playing Shorts and Hornets T-Shirt. For new female players joining in Season 2, 2017 the Hornets New Player Pack included in fees.

Training Days - training days and times are dependent on availability of coaches and will be finalized at start of season, but our standard training are held either of Monday or Wednesday afternoons, between 4:30-6:00 at Hibiscus Sports Complex.

Games are 4 x 10 minutes quarters with running clock. Under 10's is mixed teams.


Training - Players are expected to attend weekly training sessions. Basketballs – each player is required to bring a basketball to training. These can be purchased from any sports store or Kmart/Big W. Basketballs can range from $5 to well over $100. For starters I find $5-$10 rubber basketballs are the best as they bounce well and can be left outside without to much damage.Some cheaper imitation leather ones can get heavy and stop bouncing. There are three different size basketballs used in our competition.

1. River City Hornets Registration Fees - Season 2, 2017

Fees cover: Game/Training costs and club admin costs. There are no weekly club fees. New Players add $40 for purchase of playing shorts (pack fee included in fees for new female players).


Family Discounts: 2 kids 5% discount on total fees, 3+ kids 10% discount of total fees. Please apply these discounts when making payment. For more information email: rivercityhornets@gmail.com

Payment of River City Hornets fees is via EFT or by visiting a Commonwealth branch. All fees must be paid by Week 2 of each season. Bank Details: River City Hornets BSB 064-118 Account Number 01-019-9775



2. South West Metro Pirates Registration Fees - Information Only - Do Not Register with South West until advised by River City Hornets.

South West Metro Pirates (SWMBI) Registration fee is an annual fee payable directly to South West Metro via their sporting pulse website, payment is required at time of registration.

You do not need to be registered with South West Metro to participate in the grading/trial period. However all players must be registered with South West Metro before they play in regular season as our regular season competition uses electronic scoring via Stadium Scoring.

Team Size

RCH season fees costs are currently based on 18 week season1. Although efforts are made to create teams with max 8 players due to player numbers, team numbers, etc. there are some teams that will have 9-10 players throughout the season.


If due to the makeup of the competition a team with 9-10player that are scheduled less than 11 round games in that season the players will be eligible for the following fees discount on the next season fees:

- 10 full paying players – 10% discount2

- 9 full paying players – 5% discount2


Discount will be determined at end of season and only be applicable if all players have fully paid that seasons fees and team has exceeded 8 players for two thirds (2/3rd) of season.


If team is scheduled 11 or more games in season then nodiscount will be applicable.

1 18 week season includes 3 weeks grading, 2 weeks finals and 13 weeksof round games.

2 if players received family discount, this team fee discount will becalculated on reduced fee total.
